Day 1: Arrival in Leh – Acclimatization
Arrive at Leh Airport and transfer to your hotel. Spend the entire day resting and adjusting to Ladakh’s high altitude and winter conditions. Stay hydrated, keep yourself warm and avoid strenuous activity. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 2: Leh – Acclimatization & Preparation
Continue acclimatization with a relaxed day in Leh. If conditions permit, take a short walk around the local market. Later, attend a trek briefing, check winter clothing and equipment, and understand the techniques and safety precautions required for walking on frozen river surfaces. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 3: Medical Check-Up & Final Trek Preparation
Complete the required health and administrative formalities applicable to the Chadar Trek. The remaining day is reserved for rest and final preparation. Your trek leader will brief you about ice conditions, changing weather, emergency procedures and responsible trekking practices. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 4: Leh – Trek Starting Point – First Camp
After breakfast, drive towards the designated trek starting point in the Zanskar region. Begin your first walk on or alongside the frozen river under the guidance of the trekking team. Learn to adapt your walking technique to different ice surfaces before reaching the first campsite. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 5: Trek Through Zanskar Gorge
Continue deeper into the dramatic Zanskar Gorge. Walk across sections of frozen river surrounded by towering rock walls and striking winter scenery. Depending on ice conditions, parts of the route may require walking along rocky riverbanks. Reach the designated campsite by afternoon. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 6: Frozen River Trek – Deep Gorge
After an early breakfast, resume trekking through the frozen landscape. Each section of the Chadar presents a different combination of ice formations, narrow gorges and rugged terrain. Follow the trek leader’s instructions carefully as you progress towards the next campsite. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 7: Trek Towards Nyerak Region
Continue towards the Nyerak region, one of the well-known sections of the traditional Chadar route. The journey offers spectacular views of frozen formations and steep canyon walls. Reach the designated camp and rest after the day’s challenging walk. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 8: Nyerak – Frozen Waterfall & Exploration
Spend time exploring the Nyerak area and its famous frozen waterfall, subject to current trail accessibility. Take in the extraordinary winter scenery and experience the remote character of the Zanskar region. The day also allows some recovery before beginning the return journey. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 9: Nyerak – Return Trek
After breakfast, start retracing the route along the frozen river. Conditions on the Chadar can change quickly, making the return journey feel completely different. Follow your guide carefully across frozen and rocky sections before reaching the designated campsite. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 10: Continue Return Trek
Resume the trek through the Zanskar Gorge, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and winter landscapes. Cross the safest available sections according to the trek leader’s assessment of the ice. Reach the next campsite and spend the evening resting in the remote Himalayan surroundings. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 11: Final Trek – Return to Leh
Complete the final section of the frozen river trek and reach the roadhead, where your vehicle will be waiting. Drive back to Leh and check in to your hotel. Enjoy a warm, comfortable evening and rest after completing this demanding winter adventure. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 12: Leh – Rest & Leisure
Keep this day as a buffer and recovery day, particularly useful during a winter expedition where weather and route conditions can affect schedules. Relax at the hotel or, if conditions allow, explore Leh Market for souvenirs and local products. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 13: Leh – Departure
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer to Leh Airport for your onward flight. Depart with unforgettable memories of frozen landscapes, towering gorges and one of Ladakh’s most distinctive winter trekking experiences.
